What are the best places to visit in Italy? That is not an easy question to answer as Italy offers so much that one visit is never really enough. From the north to the south Italy has so many attractions and offers so many different experiences to its visitors. For the first time visitors a good choice are Rome, Florence and Venice but if you have a little more time to spare, Sorrento, the Amalfi coast and a touch of Tuscany really gives you the perfect taste of this amazing country and will undoubtedly give you the incentive to return to explore these areas in more depth.
Rome or as it is known, the Eternal City, is a must as the history of the ancient Romans shaped the Italy and influenced much of the ancient world. Rome with its amazingly well preserved Colosseum, Roman Forum and other great ancient sites, really tells the story of the past glories of the roman civilization. Rome as the site of the Vatican also attracts many to see the riches of the Vatican museum, the Sistine Chapel and the Basilica of St. Peter. And of course Rome is famous for its cosmopolitan ambiance with its great cafes, restaurants and glamorous shops.
In Florence you will find yourself immersed in the art of the grand masters of the Renaissance: Michelangelo, Da Vinci, Raphael, and Botticelli to name just a few. You will find their masterpieces in Florence. You will also find the grand works of the great architects like Brunelleschi. Florence is also a city of beautiful scenery with its romantic the Arno River. Of course you will find wonderful food and great shopping especially for leather and other crafts.
From Florence you can visit the beautiful countryside of Tuscany with its marvelous smaller medieval towns perched on hillsides. The postcard like scenery with its rolling hills and cypress trees is well known and has inspired writers and artists. For those who are connoisseurs of great food and wine or just love to experience new culinary delights, Tuscany with its wonderful production of specialty foods and world class wines will not disappoint. Tuscany is most certainly one of the best places to visit in Italy.
Sorrento and the Amalfi coast on the beautiful turquoise waters of the Mediterranean is another gem not to be missed. This area of the country will surely entrance you with its color, beautiful sunshine and rugged coast line from which small towns emerge from its cliffs. The Amalfi coast attractions are many and include towns like Positno, Ravello, Amalfi and of course the Isle of Capri an the amazing Blue Grotto.
